How to Make a Video

Language: Communicating with friends during the video making process (example: How are we going to edit the video?)

Skills : How to reacts with camera, body language, professional terms, technical-looking controls of camera, acting skill, writing scripts, giving instructions, discussing and solving problems.

Control: Task Based/ Project Based Learning

Level: All

Time: 4 weeks

Materials: Camera/ Handycam/ Hand phone, Compact camera, editing software

Pre- Production (Planning)

1)      Plan the video and gather any resources that you might need in making the video. You can find some samples on YouTube.

2)      Start planning with few basics things such as :

a)      The approximate length of the final video, how many shots you will need to achieve this, how much talking you can fit in, etc.

b)      What music or other sounds will be added to the video.

c)      A script or storyboard.

d)     What medium and format the final video will be shown in. Be aware of any special requirements of the medium, and the best way to convert (encode) into the correct format.

3)      Find the main manpower for the production such as:

a)      Writer: Writing the script.

b)      Actor: Rehearsing for the role.

c)      Editor: Editing the footage/video.

d)     Director: Direct the whole production.

Production (Camera work and sound recording)

1)      Give direction to actors.

2)      Start filming.

3)      Actors/Actresses act their roles according to the script.

4)      Use camera in different direction to have better results.

5)      Make dubbing if necessary (have unwanted sounds while filming/error while filming)

Post-Production (Editing/ Encoding finished video)

1)      Remove unwanted footage.

2)      Arrange desired footage in the correct order.

3)      Add music, titles, transitions and possibly other effects.

4)      Convert (encoding) into the correct format(s).

5)      Share the video with friends.

6)      Accept reviews/comments.
