Reflection (Before the Language Camp B)
Before the Language Camp, we were informed by our lecturer about this
activity which was going to be held on 11th of October 19, 2014
(Saturday) at SK Kota Masai 2 with the aim to enhance the students’ English
language proficiency for everyday use and practice their language in social,
cultural and educational activities. The target respondents were secondary
school students from different schools. My classmates and I were the committees
in this activity with some lecturers who would assist us and evaluate our
performance in this activity.
As we know that preparation is essential for every activities in order
to make the event successfully and meaningful. Checklists are a useful tool to assist with our organization
while having required
materials and equipments can make a difference in our overall enjoyment and
experience. Before the
Language Camp, we all did attend the meeting to divide the tasks and report the
progress of our own task. My friends and I were responsible for Tandem Writing
activity which was an interesting game to cultivate and promote the team work
and collaboration skills among the students. In this game, we only needed to
prepare three different themes of the story which were ghost story, love story
and animal story for three different zones. The materials we needed were only
paper and pencil. In the meeting, my friend briefed the other teammates about
the flow of this activity such as how to carry out the game and the duration,
etc which was vital to give them a clear view about this activity so that all
of us could be able to make the activity more productively and effectively.
Through
the meeting, we all understood and knew the whole camp activities, tentative
and our own role in this camp. As one of the facilitators, I jotted down the
main job I needed to do in this camp, for instance how to carry out the ice
breaking, etc. There were 20 facilitators and each group had 10 members from
different schools. The name of the group was based on the hero characters which
was special and unique that the students would like it and feel a sense of
belongings that would encourage taking part the activities actively and
energetically.
On that day, we all gathered at D05
to wait for the UTM bus and then we moved the materials needed in Language Camp
supplied by the faculty to the bus. After we all had settled down, we departed
to our destination and Alison helped to direct the ways to go the school by
using the apps of Waze. We all arrived at the school on time and we were ready
for this camp as many students had arrived at the school.
