English camp A : reflection BY Nurul Alia Azahar

LANGUAGE CAMP JOURNAL BY NURUL ALIA AZAHAR
Before language camp
Assalamualaikum and Hello everyone…huhu..Sorry for the late posting..i forgot to upload this journal in the game plan blog..I’m really sorry.. J..So, let’s talk about the language camp that was organized on last few weeks. Lets start with how I got involved in this camp and why I want to join this camp in the first place. When Mr.Ghazali asked us about being a facilitator in the language camp, I was excited because I knew the feeling of being a facilitator in English camp and I love it..Huhu..The reason why I wanted to join this camp was because I want to increase my confident level as I’m not a really brave person especially when dealing with new people..hahaha…
All of us were divided into groups and each of us was given one activity to be organized. My group mates and I, Nurul Shuhada, Syahira and Sara Shafiqa got the skit activity. At first, we were thinking of doing the skit activity based on fairy tale story where each group will be given one fairy tale story and they need to do a skit based on the story but we had to change our plan because we got some information that the skit activity will be based on the tandem writing activity. My group and the tandem story group discussed this matter together so that our activity will be synchronized. We did the lesson plan and also the evaluation sheet for the skit presentation. The skit performance was judged by the escort teachers.

During Language Camp 1
During the English camp, I was having fun with my students..huhuhu..I thanked to God because almost all of my students cooperated well with me even though they were a bit naughty..hahaha. At first I was having a difficulty because the students seem to be very passive and quiet. They were not really responding to my instructions but after awhile they started to slowly talk to me and asking me about this and that. Things that I did was I tried to be as friendly as possible to the students and told them that they should not feel shy to speak in English because they were in an English camp. There were two Chinese students who did not want to speak at all but after few games, they started to talk. I need to pay extra attention to the two Chinese girls, always ask whether they understand or not, called out their names and I also praised them so that they feel comfortable with me. When I asked them whether they love the camp or not they said that they love this English camp and they were having fun with me and all the group members. I was very glad that they like it..hahaha..Throughout all the activities, I found that I did not have many difficulties in handling the students but I need to give a really simple but clear instruction to the students. There were few activities that I think not suitable for the students. The first activity was the tandem writing. When handling this activity, I found that the students were not able to construct sentences and imagine their own story. They need guidance to complete the task. Eventhough they have the idea of what to write, they still did not know how to construct the sentences. They asked me about some meanings and the other friends would copy their friend’s work. I think that this tandem writing should be changed to group writing where they can share their idea with the other group members. The other activities that were not suitable for the primary students were skit activity where the students need to do their own script writing, director and etc. In this case, the facilitator plays an important role because they need to assists the students to come out with a script that they will use for their skit presentation. For overall comment, I think that the camp was a success ….hehehehe

After English Camp 1

After the camp we collected all the rubbish in the hall and went back to UTM. We did our post mortem in class and my friends were asked to do a report for the camp .We were asked to do a journal for this camp and prepare the lesson plan for the activity that we were in charged in. I was glad that I joined this camp because it’s really fun. I was enjoying myself with the children and at the same time we learnt something not only English language but the value of friendship, love, responsibility and cooperation.
