Altantuya claimed she would be killed by Razak, witness tells court

MONGOLIAN translator Altantuya Shaariibuu lodged a police report the day she went missing, alleging that she was afraid that a man named “Razak Baginda” would kill her.

The report, tendered through eighth prosecution witness Kons Nurwazlihawa Ibrahim, was typed by herself at the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee police station at 1pm on Oct 19.

The 19-year-old constable said the report was written in English and since she was not well versed in the language, she had asked a colleague, Kons Mohd Salleh Ibrahim to explain to her what the report was about.

“Salleh told me that the complainant (Altantuya) had alleged that a man named Razak Baginda had hired a few men to tail her.

Jobseeker told to take off blouse

People can feel very vulnerable in an interview session. It's a communicative event where a potential employer feels very dominant.

Jobseeker told to take off blouse

PENANG: A taxi company owner was arrested after he instructed a woman to take off her blouse so that he could see the size of her breasts during a job interview here.

The man told the woman, a housewife in her 20s, that he was looking for a clerk who looked like a model, and that she needed to take off her blouse as part of the interview last Friday.

The woman, who claimed to be under a spell, did as she was told by the man, who is in his 40s. Sources said that as she was leaving the office, he made a “veiled” threat and told her not to tell anyone about the incident. (The Star)

my contribution?hhmmm....(posted by azra)

hye guys...
guess i'm d last person to post my blog here,huhuhu...but i'm hoping that you guys are still willing to comment on my blog...
okeiz, let's go straight to the business...my contribution to the ELC Kulai...
hhmmm..................
okeiz...i was appointed as the secretary 1, by our 'kaki lebar' director,sulia,hahaha...
my first job as the secretary was to prepare (actually sulia started it first, i continued her work) the working paper...i thought i got an easy job...but it was not easy...i have to edit, print, and did some more editing, print, edit and print, edit again, print again...i dont know how many trees that had been cut down to produce the paper that i wasted before our 'beloved' dean approved the working paper...huhuhu...my second job was to prepare slide shows for every meeting(we had 4 meetings)....this was an easy job actually...but grace and andrew(especially) always complaint on the spelling error that i did(i was using sms spelling they said)...hahaha...i was glad that my slide shows helped to aid understanding about what should we do for the ELC...what else did i do?hmm...basically,just like others,i did wat sulia asked me to do...i tried my best to make her job, automatically our job easier,hahaha....for example, the score sheet,so that we wont be facing problems in counting the marks...during the ELC,i was appointed as the mini director, for group C...i did not face any problem in carrying out the duty, since i was assisted by great facilitators(azma,k nora, shamini, becca, shereena n khairi)...thanx a lot guys...i had so much fun facilitating the kids...i was the game master for drama, together with k nora...i helped k nora (and wani too)to prepare score sheets for judges and some other forms needed for the drama...thanx a lot k nora for contributing so much for the drama preparation...hoh,suddenly i realised i wrote a lot here,hehehe...i think i did enough boasting for the contribution,hahaha...i should stop i guess...

time for reflection...(insaf sket)
i really enjoyed myself throughout the ELC...im sooo glad it turned out to be a succesful camp...congrats everyone...i think, for the next ELC (if any),we should reduce some of the games since the kids only get to play only for a few minutes...it's such a pity for them to stop playing while they are having fun...they also did not have the chance to have second round of some of the game because of time constraint...i guess they barely remembered what game they played,huhuhu...
as for the drama,i think it was a good plan to give the title of the story and what they are supposed to do earlier about...they had ample time to prepare for the script and props...they were so excited about the drama...i was sooo touched with their effort...even the passive participant shone during the drama......
i think that's all i would like to say here...thanx a lot everyone fr making it a success...chiaow...

Repost: Contribution & Reflection, by Izzati

[My Contribution]

Before the camp..

5 February 2007
As the head of Facilitators' Manual bureau my duty started after we had our first rehearsal at KTF on 5 February 2007. From the day onwards I kept collecting game plan from each game masters. It was not a simple task because everybody was burdened with other assignments and projects that need to be completed. Moreover some games needed changes after we identified some problems during the first rehearsal.

8 February 2007
Malini and I met Mr.G to discuss about both facilitators and students' manual. Mr. G gave us the sample of the manuals and explained to us what he expected from our bureaus. Mr G also asked me to give him the first draft of facilitators' manual on the first day after Chinese New Year Celebration which is on Wed, 21 Feb. (Need to came back early, pity me huh?!) Then I went to see Salveen and Shereena to divide our tasks. (Thanks for both of you!!).

20 February 2007
Wani gave me the facilitators' manual for Camp A that had been edited by Mr.G. When I got the manual I did some changes according to the needs of Camp B. Thanks to Wani for helping me to do the editing.

21 February 2007
As promised I handed in the first draft of the facilitators' manual to Mr.G.

22 February 2007
Besides the formal meeting in the classroom Sulia, Azra, Salveen, Shereena, Malini, Sumitha and I had an informal meeting at my room. We had a discussion on how to do the grouping since there were too many students to cater. We took into consideration the location, the student (passive @ active) as well as the nature of the game itself. We had also changed some of the games' names, i.e: (Speaking Salveen -> The Magic Box).

26 February 2007
We had our 2nd formal meeting. Camp A group suggested than we need Plan B. I was assigned to collect Plan B to be included in the manual. Besides, some games need to be replaced with more suitable games. The manual kept changing

6 March 2007
We had our 3rd meeting. The way of grouping the students need to be changed due to some problems (Form 3 & 5 joined later). The manual need some alteration (again!). Thanks s lot Andrew for helping me to edit the final draft of the manual!!

19 March 2007
The manual was distributed to all Camp B facilitators. [fuuuhhhh~]

22 & 23 March 2007
2nd and 3rd Rehearsal – I helped the Aisyah & Aishah (material bureau) to prepare the materials.

During the camp..

24 & 25 March 2007
Unforgettable moment with the 'kids'!!!

My other tiny winy contributions:
  1. Helped Ammani & Grace to treat two sick girls. (Luckily I brought my personal First Aid Kit).
  2. Lend 5 extension wires to K. Jeya (equipment bureau).
  3. Ran to all the headquarters to distribute the 'missing' files.
  4. Became the make up artist for my actresses (the beauty contest in Pak Pandir II)
  5. Chocolate & candies for the students (they were hungry, pity them uh?)
  6. Cookies for the fe-c? (yana! hehe).

That's all for the show off time!

With lots of love.. XOXO
Nurul Izzati Md Amin.

My Reflection

On 24th March 2007, the bus came sharp at 6.50 a.m. Being the first person to step into the bus at 6.55 a.m., I had a strong feeling that it was indeed a good start. I believe that all the facilitators were ready both physically and mentally for the 'battle'. Everybody was punctual, the souvenirs, materials and luggages filled the bus' compartment. It seemed like nothing was wrong and everything will be just fine. And it was! Congrats to all..

Well, looking back at the reason why we use games in teaching English language, one of the reasons is to help and encourage many learners to sustain their interest and work. I personally think that we have no doubt about it at all by now. Right friends? Language games really work to foster the students' autonomy to learn and learn and learn and even dream in English.. (when they are too tired with our activities!!)

I really enjoyed all the games especially 'battleship' (congrats kak nabilah), 'treasure hunt' (thanks azma & noni for giving us the chance to listen to all the group cheers), 'happy melodies' (good job, ina! You have chosen the right songs, FINALLY! Hehe..), the morning exercise (well done to all the stars: Fadhli, Malini & Shereena) and not forgetting the Drama presentation! (my 'kids' made it to the final!). The students are gifted, it is such a waste if they do not get the chance to explore their capabilities. The satisfaction came when the students' light were on (I quoted Mr.G). However I hate it when we need to leave them. It was too short for me. I didn't get enough..i missed them, really. Even until now the students keep sending me sms and asking us to go there again. I'm so touched. It was such a precious memory for me. Thanks a lot Mr.G for all your guidance.

MY INSIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ELC 2007 [ this is a reost. the 1st was a disgrace, just fixing the spacing only.haha....]]

Salamz and gd day 2 all…

Parting is such a sweet sorrow…

PRE CAMP

The camp was great. I hadda lots of fun. Mostly by watching these kids struggled to participate in our activities. And I get to know more about my fellow friends.
Basically, my job for this camp was:

Assisting Siti Hajar as the Treasurer of Camp B. Helping her in allocating money for the bureau that needed it, balancing the account and the typing up of things.  My role here is a minor one only. She was the one who had been carrying most of   the burden of our budget as I was and still a number intolerant.

Helping other bureaus especially the Souvenirs and Materials, along with other facis. Sorting out the never-ending participants' folders and their tags, wrapping up the souvenirs, (not very artsy in this department).

Preparing the flashcards for the Word Idol Session, along with Rubi. It was like a factory operator. Auto piloting in tracing, cutting and pasting the cards, all 200++ of them.
Dreading the Battleship session. It was a nightmarish game!

DURING CAMP

I was assigned as the Mini Director of Camp B, along with my friends cooping in at the Study Room of Block B, Aspuri.
My Group was the HARRY POTTER [with Prema & Mira]. I didn't help  them much with the kids. Sorry gurls…
To THE GURLZ:  Mira [soooo material, hehe…], Izzati, Ina, Prema,  Malini and Jeya. Thanx a  million to all of u!!!! Camp B was a  success. All of us had loads of fun.
Game master for Merry Go Round. [Icebreaking session]
Collector of overall marks for the closing ceremony, calculating and deciding the winners for the awards prepared. I missed the final round of the Drama Presentation with other mini directors.

POST CAMP

Helping Hajar closing the account.
Alhamdullillah, we managed to save some for beneficial use later on. Right guys?   Better have balance than suffered from insufficient fund.

MY EXPERIENCE

Once upon a time there was a place called the Faculty of
Education, UTM. This was where the country got its fresh
supply of uppity teachers, eager and wide-eyes to teach
the young brats who could outdo them anytime and anywhere.
Then there was this course called the TESL program, which
tragically, the only course there that was exciting and
full of fun people, unlike the mad scientists-to-be,
running around with their precious experiments a.k.a
world pollution, and also the maths people with only
numbers running dripping thru their ears. And or course,
not forgetting our fellow aspired athletes and ustazs
and ustazahs which no words could ever describe them.
To fulfill the requirements of graduation, the TESL
people needed to take this one particular paper
called the LANG GAMES.
After huffin' and puffin', toiling away doing the
appointed tasks assigned by the ever clever and
professional director, then it was time for the
people to carry out the main event: the LANG CAMP
 at STAR PUTRA, KULAI.
Braving the early hours and hunger, the people traveled
to the school by bus. The first session with the participants
was the make or break session although it was too early
to tell. Things were a bit awkward at the beginning,
but the people slowly gaining speed as the day went.
Especially at the  MINI CAMP B, out of the 4 mini
camps established due to the large number of
participants, things were great. The facis were
enjoying themselves along with the participants.
During the night session, new participants kept
popping up like mushrooms. But the Camp B people
handled it well.
On the closing day, the last breakfast together was
a very special one. The "mee masin" was the culprit
of the day. Luckily the ever present and caring lecturers:
Mr. G & Dr. Norazman were kind enough to go out and bought
the people a variety of buns as substitute, as they
themselves were unable to stomach the mee!!
All went well and ended well. The closing ceremony was a very
memorable one in a long…long... time. Too many things happened
during such a short time. Everyone must be remembering the bits
and pieces of things there.

I would like to thanx Mr. G, Dr. Norazman, fellow friends
from CAMP A, KLUANG for their insights, guidance and
cooperation in making BOTH camps successful. And also the
facis from CAMP B, KULAI for sticking together thru every
thing, swallowing every hardship,misunderstanding, grudge,
back stabbing, some fun and laughter, the meaning of
cooperation and getting to know the unknown sides of our
fellow classmates, in the process of making this happened,
in getting the marks that we were fighting for, some more
than others. Hey, it's a free country, rite?

And lastly, a thousand apologies from me if these are
to blunt and real to handle. It's the reality, not just
some fairy tales. I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of
hate mail after this!!! Hahaha…. Do I care? Not a bit.
Only for those who really worked hard with honest,
down to earth intention just to see the happy and
appreciative faces of all the participants that we
have met and loved there. Their faces were priceless.
We have made it, 3SPL!!!! We have succeeded in putting
smiles and interest in learning English even if it was
temporary. That's more important than the marks that
we'll be getting after this. To MIRA, ZATI, INA, PREMA,
MALINI AND JEYA, thanx for making MINI CAMP B a success,
even if we didn't win the drama thingy. We sure did
grab others.

We are not anyone's subordinates. We are equals.

 We Did It!!!!!

My Reflection.

Language games really work to foster the students' autonomy to learn and learn and learn….and even dream in English..

However… I hate it when we need to leave them. It was too short for me. I didn't get enough..i missed them, really. Even until now the students keep sending me sms and asking us to go there again. I'm so touched. It was such a precious memory for me. Thanks a lot Mr.G for all your guidance.

Truly, madly, deeply,

The other side of story...

My Contribution

My contribution? What I have done for this camp? It is weird because I never list down everything I do for others to read. I don't think that I contribute so much for this camp but that little contribution, I did it with all my heart.

Before the camp

  1. Ask each bureau to prepare for their budget.
  2. Collect the budget from each bureau.
  3. Total up the entire budget and sent it to Miss Director.
  4. Open the account. Thanks to NORAISAH MUHARI for lending me your account where I can keep the money saves.

Since the number of participants keep changing, so I need to repeat Step 1 to Step 3 more than 3 times. There was time during mid term break, I got late evening message from Miss Director to revise the budget because of the number of participants were changed to 235 and she wanted the budget on that day. How can I? I was at home and I did not bring the budget book with me. And how can I ask each bureau to revise their budget due to the changing and get the response immediately. And how can I send the budget to Miss Director because I do not have internet connection at home. So I told Miss Director about it. She gave me the list of budget before this via sms and asked me to revise the budget on my own. Then I called my assistant, Nabilah Ismail. I was in Malacca and Nabilah was in Terengganu. We discussed over the phone about the budget. Luckily Nabilah got internet at her uncle house. So Nabilah helped me to do the write up and email it to Miss Director. Thanks lot Nabilah.

  1. Discuss with Salveen about the The Magic Box game. Salveen was the Game Master and I was her assistant.
  2. Prepare the boxes which contain list of titles for The Magic Box game.
  3. Help other bureau such as Material Bureau to sort out folders for the participants together with other facilitators.
 During the camp

  1. I was one of the facilitators in Group A. Together with Noni we were in charge for Fort Minor group.
  2. Briefing for Who Am I, Battleships, and Future: It's In Your Hand.
  3. Help Azma to take care of Checkpoint K with Nabilah during Treasure Hunt activity.
  4. Be the judge for the first round of drama presentation within Group A.
  5. Make sure that the HQ was cleaned before the participants left the HQ.

After the camp

  1. Closing the account with Nabilah…It was not an easy job to do even though I had experiences in doing the account. Thanks again Nabilah!
  2. Present the budget and balance to the class.
  3. Return the balance to people who deserved it. E.g : T-shirt balance…

Congrates to all Bureau because you managed to cut down the cost and as for the balance we can use it for other beneficial things later...something that we had agreed before ;-).  That's all about my contribution. Did I miss out something here? No I don't think so. Thank you.

My Reflection

Before I go further with my reflection about the ELC Kulai 07…First of all, I would like to give my biggest gratitude to Allah S.W.T for still blessing me with the gift of life, mind soul and strength. Secondly, I would like to express my gratitude to our lecturer, Mr Ghazali Bunari a.k.a Mr G for his guidance and advices and not to forget Dr. Norazman for helping us especially when it comes to financial support. Last but not least, a special thanks to all facilitators from ELC A and ELC B for the patience and cooperation in making ELC Kulai 07 a big success!

As for me, ELC Kulai was a huge success. Even though there were problems here and there start from the preparation until the camp day but we managed to tackle the problems and did it our own way. Congratulation to all facilitators! I was one of the facilitators in Group A together with our Mini Director Salveen, Ruzaini, Dayang, Andrew, Rubi as well as our Miss Director Sulia. I did enjoyed myself and had great experience working with all of them.

Talking about Group A…frankly speaking, the participants in Group A were not really popular if compared to other groups. I think you can see that. Does anyone remember the Simple Super Star, Westlife and Fort Minor from Group A? I don't think the answer is yes unless you are one of the facilitators in Group A. the participants were too shy, very passive and not interested at all in most activities.

All facilitators in Group A tried so hard to make our group 'alive'. I think we had been kind enough to the participants: be friendly with smile on the tired face all the time, being generous in giving them stamps, explained things that they could not understand, guided them during the activities session, provided them all the materials that they need, gave them ideas, allowed them to express their feelings towards the activities, friends and facilitators, gave them encouragement words to motivate themselves throughout the camp. What else? BUT still only few of the participants in Group A show their interest. It was like 'you can bring the horse to the water but you cannot force the horse to drink the water'. You know what I mean? However, it was not an end for the facilitators in Group A to give up.

There were also good things that I like about the participants in Group A. They remember our names during the Ice Breaking session without looking at our nametag. They respect us and they listen to our instructions. One thing that I noticed was that they could understand better when we explained them in smaller group of 17 participants. They also preferred to ask question within that small group rather than in big group of 57 participants. Some of them were quite competitive and particular about the stamps they got. After each activity, they'll go got the board where we putted their names and marks. They'll count the number of stamps they got.

There were games that the participants enjoy so much such as Battleship, Treasure Hunt and Happy Melodies. T6hanks to all Game Master for make it interesting! The Magic Box was quite boring. Sorry to Salveen as the Game Master and to myself as her assistant. Hehehe…some of them were very shy to speak. They have ideas but very shy to speak. One way to encourage them to speak by asking them question about the topic, then only they'll speak.

It was a bit chaos during drama preparation. For Group A, the facilitators really need to help them from A-Z. Noni and I  helped our small group Fort Minor to rehearse the drama and give them ideas for the drama. I should say Noni was the mastermind for Fort Minor during drama preparation. I was glad Noni was there! Dayang had her own story with her group Simple Super Star. She was alone and had to manage her group. It was not easy to handle the group alone. She had to take care of everything: giving ideas for the script, how to act, preparing the materials and make up the participants. Move on to Westlife group. Andrew and Ruby faced a big problem when their group did not want to listen to their instructions and started 'making face'. Andrew went out and came to me. He said, "Hajar, could you please talk to my group and give them some motivation". Pity Andrew. He really lost and don't know what to do. I said OK but he needs to help Noni. So I left Noni and Andrew with my group because I know she can handle them.

In the HQ, I went to Andrew's group. Ruby was there. I asked them to sit in circle and talked to them as a sister not a facilitator. I told them why we were there, the rationale that we were doing all the activities…and blab la. I noticed one of the girls cried and she went out…to the toilet may be. I wanted to ask her why but it was not the right time. Then only Andrew's group wanted to make a move preparing for the drama. And Salveen asked me and Andrew to be the judges for the first round of drama presentation within Group A. it was so hard to make decision. So I asked all the facilitators in Group A and we came out with one decision that was to send Simple Super Star group for the final round.

The closing ceremony was great! The facilitators' performance on the stage was quite funny. Some of us forgot their own position and some of us forgot the steps. After the closing ceremony, that girl came to me for my autograph. She hugged me and thanked me. I asked her why she cried. She said that she felt so hopeless and useless because she felt like she could not do what others could do. I told her that she was wrong and she need to give herself chances and opportunities to try and not to judge herself that way.

After all, it was a great experience and congratulations to all!
