Ainina’s Reflection during Language Camp A

We were gathering in front of D06 as early as 7 in the morning so that we can be there earlier for registration and preparation. We arrived at SMK Kota Masai 2 at about 8.30am and at that time most students from different primary school had already there and finished with the registration. After they have finished with registration we were asked to introduced ourselves to them and do some refreshment first. Then we were divided into several groups.
Firstly we started with ice-breaking where all students in the group had to introduce their name, school, and hometown to their group members. This can create a new bond between the students when they can get to know each other and they can be working together easily in the next activity. After that it is continued with logo designing and cheers composing. Students in my group enjoyed this logo design activity because most of them like to draw and this had enhanced their interest towards the camp.
We also played charade and ‘win, lose or draw’ after we had our breakfast. The students seemed to be very excited playing these games because it involves interaction. They tried to speak out even their English is not fluent just to help their friends. This helps them to communicate and learn English unconsciously while having fun.
Lastly we had skit performance and the story was taken from tandem writing that we had asked them to write before. In this activity we can really look at their involvement and cooperation between group members. They were so happy during this activity because they can see the performance of their new friends.

Students in my group are very talented however they are too shy to speak louder in the performance. For me it is not a big problem for people in their age to act like that. What the most important thing is we need to make them feel welcomed and guide them so that they know how to use English correctly.
