Reflection (During the Language Camp B)

Reflection (During the Language Camp B)

During the Language Camp, I was assigned to the group of Captain America and my group had 9 members whose age was 14 years old. There were Malay students and Indian students. Every facilitator was given enough stationery and a name card. In brief, the program tentative was registration, ice breaking, Charade, group logo / group cheers, coffee break, Win, Lose or Draw, Tandem Writing, Skit rehearsal, lunch, Skit competition, and prize giving as well as closing ceremony, from 8.30am till 5.00pm.
The camp was started by the emcee who introduced “halo” and “hi” first. Unfortunately, there was a big problem with PA system that there was no microphone for them to use. However, soon, it was overcome by the school teachers. Then, the emcee gave the instruction to the students who came from different schools to look for their group based on the group name given. Rapidly, they found their own group and my group name was Captain America. After forming the group, we sat on the chair in a circle to start our first activity which was ice breaking. In this activity, we knew each other and understood the purpose they joined this camp. After that, we started to play Charade that my group competed with Alison’s group. We won the game and this motivated the students. During the group logo and group cheers activity, the group leader was selected and he started to divide the task to the members which half of them would design the logo while the rest of them would think of the cheers. At the end, our group logo was the shield of Captain America picture while our group cheer was “We are Captain America. We are Captain America. We can do everything. We are the best. We are the best. Captain America, Go! Go! Go!” This brought them to the exciting stage.

After the coffee break, another game which was Win, Lose or Draw, started. Our group again competed with Alison’s group. We won the game and the students truly learned how to cooperate with each other. Next, in the Tandem Writing activity, they creatively wrote the Love story. They enjoyed this game so much as they could create different plot of the story. After this, they laughed when they read their story and then we chose the best story after we had done the discussion. After the Skit rehearsal and lunch break, Skit competition started. They did their best to perform their role and complete the task although they took along the script. They told me that they learned something from this camp and be more confident in using English and I was really satisfied. We took several group photos before leaving the hall and we possessed good memories.

I agree with you that students are able to write the story creatively in the tandem writing activity. They can add any characters that they like or even their friends to make the story fun and interesting.
