things to avoid...

?THINGS TO AVOID..."

In my opinion, our English Language Camp neither success nor failure. However, I still enjoy the camp and not only I felt it but also all people that were involved in the camp, I think they also felt the same thing as me. As usual, in any program that being organized by human beings like us there were some weaknesses that we need and can be avoided in order to make it more successful in the future.

The first advice from me for those who will be  the facilitators in future during the camp is make sure you prepare yourself mentally and physically as well as psychologically. It is because if you are not preparing for that, you might face problems in managing the program as well as the game that will be played during the camp. Any unmanageable situation will occur anytime and we cannot expect it to happen, therefore you must prepare for plan B if we have problems in Plan A to be implemented. The things such as time-constraint and the place where the camp will be held are really need to be taken into consideration.

Another thing that I want to highlight in here is make sure the facilitators are friendly and please be a good friend as well as a good facilitator for our participants. The thing that needs to be in mind is we are the facilitators and not the teachers that teach students in school. Facilitator is actually needed to facilitate and help the participants during the camp and not to treat participants as our students. Our participants might come from any level of age which they might older than us or younger and some of them might at the same age of us.  Therefore, we can be their friends or their sisters. It is not only making them feels comfortable and enjoys the camp, but also the process of learning will take place in an informal way. As we all know this kind of learning process is more effective rather than formal learning process.

Besides that, make sure the people that in charge in each task such as First aid team, the PA system, the safety team, the facilitators in charge for each game and so on are responsible and can give their full efforts on that job. For example, for the first aid team, the facilitators in charged in the team should always alert for any kind of situations that are not expect to be happen. Other than that, the people in charge in PA system also need to be alert of the sound so that the camp will be always in a good condition. In addition, the safety team also carry a big responsible which they need to alert on any bad situation from happen. That is why the rules and regulations need to be taken into consideration which all the participants as well as the facilitators need to obey the rules that have been done for the camp.

Last but not least, hopefully all the advices above will give you some ideas or reference for you while organize an English Language Camp in the future. And no to forget to state in here that I still enjoy our recent English Language Camp and it will always be in my mind as a sweet memory for me. That?s all from me?thank you?

hi mc nik...

I am fully agree with your view on the task distributions. We must be alert and always ready for any unexpected things. However, as a solid united team, each and every one of the facilitators need to be ready to replace the roles whenever needed. As our little sister wrote in her reflection, "united we stand, divided we fall"....with that, I rest my case...;-)

Hi nik…. My neighbour……

Facilitator social interaction……you have a point on that. As facilitators we have to be very friendly with the participant. We can not assume that the facilitator younger than you, they might be your peers or might be older than you. So we have to treat them as a friend, not as a student. We have to make them feel comfortable to works with us and getting engage actively into the game.

Hii nik…

That is true that people in charge for each committee must be alert with what they have to do. It is very important to ensure that everything is according to what has been planned. They also must be cooperative and willing to help others. Sometimes, if one mistake done, it affects all of us because we are seen as one team. Being selfish does not help us. You gave good suggestion about the role of facilitators. As facilitators, it is a need to make the participants feel comfortable and confident with us. We have to make them enjoy the moment together and at the same time make sure that we are able to achieve our goal of the game.

hey nik...i'm strongly agree with you, especially, the part you wrote there "best and enthusiastic cheerleader " (that's me!!!!!!)...huahuahuahua...i'm that good, huh?!!!!well, at least somebody thinks so...i mean, out of any typical cheer that we've used too...it's just too boring....you'd know i cannot stand "boring" rite?anyway, i have regrets that we did not utilize the facilities in the resort...we should have been out to those shady huts just a few blocks from the poolside...since, some of us cannot stand the "heat", so, i guess we have no choice at all...pity!!!!!i planned to do a litle bit of tanning, you know....'nuff said!!!!

Assalamualaikum..
Dearest Nicky..
I agree that facilitators in future during the camp need to prepare yourself mentally and physically as well as psychologically. Being a facilitator is not an easy job because we are the mirror of the camp. we are the models for participants.Participants always measure and observe our performance during the camp.that's all from me. Bye.
