Honestly, this is my first time being a facilitator for a language camp (or any other camp). Yeah, So when I've been given the chance to do so, I think it is a very good idea for me to learn and experience it. We've been told that about 20 out of 40 something people in our class would have to join the first camp, language camp A. Then, the next batch will participate in language camp B. I participated in the first one which was held at SMK Kota Masai 2 targeted for the standard 4 and 5 primary school students.
The Language Academy has prepared most things for the camp like the schedule, materials, venue and food beforehand. So what we need to do is to plan the activities for the students. There are only girls involved for Language Camp A so we held our meeting at our college residence. All of us discussed our group names based on cartoon characters and each member was randomly selected according to the names. I was lucky to get the adorable Malaysian cartoon of 'Upin & Ipin' while others get cooler names like Batman or Spiderman. Afterwards, we were grouped into smaller ones to decide the game plan for each games. So we need to prepare the instruction and rules of the game. We also did a demonstration for some of the games to get a clearer picture of what it's supposed to be like during the language camp. In the meeting we also discuss the roles for the MC and briefly about our task for our group with the students.
