ADVICES

ADVICES FOR THE FUTURE?..

In organizing big events like English Camp takes a lot of effort and works. In making such an event a success, everyone should be united as one team not as individuals. When we unite as a team, we will share lots of new ideas, experiences, thoughts, feelings and information. As a result the job will be easier, run smoothly and the most important thing it can avoid miscommunication among us as a facilitator. We as a facilitator should set a good example in all aspect to the participants. The word energetic and ?TESL students? is like a ?synonym?. As a facilitator we have to be energetic and involve actively in the game. And most important, speak ENGLISH??

Punctuality?.. This is the core part in ensuring the Camp will be a great success. We have to be punctual in everything. Time is precious. If we lost just one second it will affect the whole unit. Take for an example, due to the time of departure, the Camp set off far from the normal plan and it affects the progress of the activity. Unpredicted situation and difficulty may take place during the progress of the Camp. So, in order to make it well controlled, always prepare a backup plan.

The selection of activity should be bear in mind. The activity not only fun to play but must have the essence of learning. The participants not only enjoy the game or activity they also will learn something from the game. This is to highlight a new way and a fun way of learning. Due to this the participants will get engage actively in the activity and learn in a relax environment.

Last but not least, the facilitators have to be friendly with the participants. We have to take into consideration that the participant not necessarily younger than you, they might be your peers or might be older than you. So we have to treat them as a friend, not as a student. There should be no gap between you and participants. This will motivate the participants to take part in the activity. Well, I suppose that?s all from me?.. Hope to see a better incoming English Camp?..Good Luck!!!!?.

Hi Iri hati...oppss...Iri... :-)

Your opinion on being friendly made me wants to add something. Being friendly does not mean that you have to smile all the time, which is the misconception that we should change. Personally, for me friendly is when you can smile, talk and offer helps when needed. If you are smiling every time you see the participants but when they need help then you failed to contribute, what is the point right. Then, about treating the participants, yes, you should not treat the participants as your students. The best way is to be their friend then they will feel more appreciated and less hesitates to involve in all activities in the camp. Okay Iri, I end my comment here. All the best…

Hi irie...
mm..i agree with you that punctuality is very important for us as facilitators. We need to be punctual, obey and try to study the time table given. Sometimes we forgot that our participants will oserve and measure our programme from this aspect.

hello irie..

personally, i agreed with you with the punctuality of the camp especially among the facilitators. however, they probably had a good reason for being late.but yes, it will affect the whole unit. some of the game cannot be played during the camp and we had to change the plan A to plan B. however, i believe all of us had learnt something.......
