My reflection of the language camp (Yi Fong)

Firstly, I would like to thank all of my classmates who really did a great job in conducting the language camp successfully. I personally feel that the camp was a successful and interesting one. We really had a great teamwork.  I really enjoyed the camp and also had a great experience being a facilitator during the language camp.
As for my reflection of the language camp, I would say that being a facilitator is not an easy task. Firstly, if the participants fail to get the idea of the game after listening to the game master’s instruction, I have to do the explanation of the game again to the participants in my group. I realized that it is really challenging in choosing suitable words to be used in my explanations to make the participants understand the message conveyed.  Sometimes, I have to repeat my explanations until all of the participants get a clear idea of the game. As a facilitator, I do admit that I accidentally made a few minor mistakes when conducting the games for my group. Although I have done my preparations well, sometimes I still feel confused with certain situations when the game was conducted. Hence, I would call for the game master’s help for that particular game in that situation. However, most of the time, I was still able to explain the different aspects of the games well to the participants and clear their doubts regarding the game.
Apart from that, I feel that it is really difficult to make the participants motivated. As a facilitator, the main thing I noticed is that the participants were not really motivated in the camp and they looked tired after playing several games. They seemed to lose focus easily during the game. In fact, it was quite tiring facilitating the participants in order to catch their attention and making them participate actively in the games. I also noticed that there were a few passive participants who showed no initiative to participate or speak out during the game. Hence, I did try my best to make all of the participants to have equal participation during the game. Sometimes, I will encourage them by giving ideas or hints to them when they ran out of ideas.

Although there is a little setback, I would say that the language camp is successful in overall as I could see that the participants were having fun as they get along with each other and participated in different games. I truly believe that all of us also had great fun and memorable moments during the language camp. Although we were exhausted after the camp, I believe that we all feel proud of ourselves.  Our hard work has indeed paid off in making the language camp to be a successful one.
