It was a good experience for me to be involved in the language camp. First of all, this is the first time I use English frequently while handling a camp. I am glad that I can practice and maximize the use of it. Since I am one of the facilitators who in charge of the “Brilliant” group, I noticed that some of them are confident and proficient enough to use English to communicate and negotiate with each other. I regard these matters as a challenge as well as an opportunity for me to improve my language proficiency mainly during giving the instructions.
On the other hand, I learnt to cooperate with my partner, Yi Fong especially during conducting the game. There are 10 participants in our group and both of us are having the soft voice, hence, we separated the participants into two teams. Each time when the game masters finish explaining the game, I will ask my participants, whether they can understand the game or not. Some of them might request me to give further explanation regarding the game and I am glad to do this. From this situation, l learnt that giving a clear explanation indeed vital for the participants to understand the rules as well as the game. Meanwhile, while playing the vacation game, I am glad to see my team put their best effort in doing the negotiation task. Each of them are excited to play this game.
However, after a few games, some of the participants started to feel tired and loss their interest in the negotiation. They said that they didn’t take breakfast in the morning. Thus, perhaps we can prepare some food such as bun for them. Having the energy and motivation definitely are important for them to participate in the game unless they come to the camp without having any right aims. For me, it depends on a person whether they are willing to learn or accept something that is new for them. If they took it in a positive way, I am sure they will learn precious experience from our camp.
Overall, I learnt several games which I think can be implemented in my future teaching classrooms and also through this camp I can see to what extent my passion are and thanks to my classmates who are always by my side assists me during the camp.

Hello Dolly,
ReplyDeleteI agree here about the participants being tired and hungry. Even as the organizer of the camp, I was also really tired and hungry. I felt like my feet are going to be detached. If we have extra budget, we can surely prepare something for them to eat as breakfast before the camp begin. I think we should keep that in mind the next time we organize a camp.
