From the training session, I did gain a lot of knowledge and
new ideas on how language can be taught in a fun way. Through this training
session, I have learned about nine games in total. Each of the game is so
interesting and fun.
However, in
the process of learning the games, I also have learnt about many other aspects
in order to conduct a successful language game in class. I realize that it is
really not an easy task to conduct a game for students. The most important
thing that I have learnt is that we have to provide clear instructions to the
students before they start playing the game. If instructions are unclear, it
will lead to confusion among students and thus causing them in failing to
complete their tasks. I also realized that a short demonstration session after
giving the explanation really helps students in understanding their task in the
game conducted. It will really give a clearer picture for students on what the
game is about.
I had also
participated in the training session by conducting a game with Akma and Chang,
which is ‘Name Six’. When conducting this game, most of the students actually
fail to name six items for the questions asked. In fact, we should actually
reduce the number of items needed to be listed by the students since they do
not have the ability to name six of them. However, I did not realize that aspect.
Hence, I did learn that we can actually modify the original requirements of the
game based on the proficiency of learners. The level of difficulty in the task given
in the game should match the ability of students.
Hence, this
training session indeed brings many benefits to me as I gain lots of knowledge
in conducting language games in class. Thank you everyone who have shared your
games in class with us!
