|

Free
|
Level:
Intermediate/advanced Malaysian students of year 6
|
Number
of students: Groups of 3-5

15-40 minutes
|
Materials:
White Board, Word Cards, Marker Pens
|
Preparation:
·
It would be much appropriate if the
teacher or instructor could draw the 6x6 bingo grid before the class takes
place. By this way, it would provide the teacher/instructor an ample time to
draw the 6x6 bingo grid and also preventing the students from seeing the boxes
of where the “RECYCLE” is written. Not only it will add up the element of
surprise, but it will also bring students to joy when they are awarded with
points/marks after they got the sentences right.
Procedure:
- Draw a 6x6 bingo grid on the board.
- Randomly write points in the squares.
- In some squares, write 'RECYCLE' instead of points.
- Stick words cards by the theme of Go Green on top of the squares and cover the points and ‘RECYCLE’.
- One team chooses a word card by the theme of Go Green and must make a grammatical sentence with the word chosen. E.g. biodiversity, biodegradable, black-water, carbon dioxide, global warming, ecosystem, greenhouse gases, renewable energy, aluminum, extinct, pesticide, pollution, habitat, etc.
- If they make an incorrect sentence, move on to the next team.
- If they make a correct sentence, they get the number of points under the card and proceed with the next team.
- To make it more practical, it would be appropriate if the sentences are written on the board so that if there are any errors, the teacher could correct them and the learning process takes place for the whole class.
- ‘RECYCLE’ give the team the advantage to erase all the points from any other team that they choose.
- The team with the most points at the end wins.
Variations:
- Play with 'DUSTBIN' instead of 'RECYCLE'
- Use other themes cards like technology instead of Go Green cards
- Make a minimum number of words for each sentence
- Have students listen and repeat after correct sentences
Notes:
·
Keep track of the sentences students
make and use them for a follow-up activity.
