ENGLISH LANGUAGE CAMP '07 (KULAI)
My Contribution towards the Camp
By JEYAVANY A/P ESWARAN
For the ELC '07(Kulai), I was given the task on managing the equipments. So what I did was; I asked our director, Sulia on the list of equipments that we will be using for the camp. She suggested some of the equipments will be used during the camp. Then, I asked each and every game master on the list of equipments that need to be used in order to play those games that we have proposed. Besides that, one month before the camp, Sulia, Azra, Khairi, Azma, Ina and me went to STARP to discuss about the progress of language camp with some of the teachers over there. As for equipment, Mr. Yusof, the 'felo' of STRAP promised that they will provide us with 2 sets of PA system, 4 microphones, 3 units of healers and 2 set of portable PA system. Mr. Yusof was such a helpful individual. I really thank him for helping me with the equipments. The only task that I had to do was, to find for 2 collar microphones, 2 extra healers and 4 laptops together with the speaker. So, the first thing I did when I came back was, I ask Aida (camp A ) on the procedures to borrow equipment from the HEP(Hal Ehwal Pelajar Office). Aida gave me a rough guides and tips. Thanks to Aida. First of all, I went to the Faculty of Education office to borrow the collar microphone and healer, but they say that they do not have any. They told me to go to HEP. I went to HEP with my colleague, Shamini. We filled in the form which requests for 2 healers and 2 collar microphone. As soon as I submit the form, the lady in the counter said that she could not lend us the healer because they will be using it for CONVOKESYEN DAY. As for the collar microphone, she told me to check with En. Yunus in "Bilik Pinjaman Peralatan". But, again, it was a disappointment because Encik Yunus said that we could not borrow. The next thing that we did was, we went around asking in Kolej 12 and KTF for the equipments but they do not want to lend it to us because they say it is for internal use only. I consulted to Mr. G about this problem and lucky me because he said that it is tolerable if we do not have the collar microphone and healer. Apart form that, I make sure that we have enough laptops, speakers and extension wire. I told each and every facilitator to provide me with an extension wire. Before leaving to Kulai, I made a checklist on the list of equipments that need to be transported .After the camp, I make sure that I return all the equipments to the right person, and THANK GOD that everything was fine.
My Reflection
By JEYAVANY A/P ESWARAN
ELC '07(Kulai) has taught me priceless lesson that I could not learn by just sitting in the four walls of the classroom.As far as the program is concerned, I have gain a lot of valuable experience. I was in Group B, and I facilitated the "Chicken Little" group. Chicken Little was the most passive group in Group B. From morning until noon, they were very passive. I had to speak 50 words in order for them to speak 1 word. The girl in that group refuse to perform the group cheer. By noon, I was losing my temper, but I controlled myself. I motivated my self to be calm. Then, I tried a different approach. I tried to be their friend; I talk to them like a fm radio (NON STOP). As I used the method, they started to open up. They were still passive but it was a bit better than morning. After lunch, the number of students in the group increased, and my task got heavier because there were larger number of students and they were passive too. I reminded my self that exhaustion was out of our dictionary. I used the same method that I used in the morning; be their friend and talk to them. By night, I saw some changes in them. My proudest moment was when Chicken Little manage win and represent Group B for the drama presentation. It proves that not ONLY loud facilitators can achieve. (We all know that five fingers are not the same, right?) They presented on PAK PANDIR 2. I am happy because, by the end of the camp, they manage to open up and show their real talent and their real self. Although in the end, they did not win, for me they are all WINNERS.
From this camp, I have learned that;
- Take up challenges. Although I am not too good in using equipments (except for computer), I took up the responsibility and I was willing to learn. I would not have learn anything about equipment if I did not except the responsibility. Thanks to Language Camp
- Learn to be patient. I learn that I would have achieved anything if I got angry with the students for them being so passive. I learn that we will be able to change anything if we put our heart and soul into it. I saw the result when my group of students manages to represent Group B for Drama presentation. be their friend.
To sum up, I had a lots of fun during the camp. Congratulations to all the facilitators. The camp went on smoothly although there were some mistakes here and there. Well, we are all human. IT IS HUMAN TO MAKE MISTAKE
BUT IT IS DIVINE TO FORGIVE, right,?

Hi Jeya!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job at managing the equipments. I guess there was no technical problem during the camp and everything was alright. Besides that, I think the way you kept your temper with the students was good. Yes, you should always have patience with students especially the shy ones because they will be afraid to participate if you are angry at them.lastly, aspire to be a good teacher.
Well that's all.
From Noni.

ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, CONGRATULATION for your OUR success in organizing this kind of event; ELC. It such a great event for me and I think u too. I also would like to express my gratitude to the Equipment Bureau especially the Head of the bureau for their ability to manage our things during the camp. Everything went smoothly and no missing equipment were reported. Credits to you and your assistant. I am so impressed that you can be a FM RADIO there. :P You told me that you are so quite person or in other word ‘passive’. However, you proved it oppositely. I think it is because sometimes we have to improvise a lot in order to get the things we want.. is it? I’m really attracted to your proverb; I guess. Let me quote it “ five fingers are not the same”. I absolutely agree with that statement. As we know, each one of us has their own special ways to sell ourselves. Right? Like the lyrics in our performance session; “Everyone is special in their own way, we make each other strong, were not the same, were different in a good way, together’s where we belong” So, in conclusion I think it is not a MUST for us to be like others. The most important things are be yourself and be honest in anything we do. Cheers!! Btw, all the best for the exams. We CAN do IT !! “Aja aja fighting!!”
++ nana ++
Aiks...the last statement on your reflection sounds fimiliar.the one in red..did i tel you something like that???Laugh out loud
