FAQ About LEAP
Salam and good morning,
LEAP is still having minor problems. I am currently ironing out the wrinkles. Be patience. Here are some frequently asked questions about LEAP.
1. Will I get the name list of students in my class?
Yes. The faculties have just submitted the names to me. Please check the file attached.
2. What should I teach the LEAP students?
Students should do the 4 compulsory tasks in order to receive the LEAP certificate.
a) Attend the class
b) Write 10 blog entries
c) Produce a short video
d) Summarize a short story
You may create lessons at your discretion around these subject matters. In addition, you may ask students on their requirements and do lessons based on their needs.
3. Will the LEAP committee provide materials for the lecturers?
From time to time, I'll upload some simple lesson plans on my class blog gameplan.blogspot.com . Feel free to use them.
4. What is the duration of LEAP class?
We will have classes for 10 weeks.
5. What if I can't attend the class due to another official task?
Replace the class. Negotiate with the students on the appropriate time and location
6. Who should I contact if I got problems with the class at the respective faculties?
Here are the contact number of the academic clerks at the faculties.
FKK Ms Hasni Mashim 36082
FKE Ms Aisyah Ahmad 57010
FKM Mr Rosli Bohani 57069

LEAP SEM 1 2014/15
Greetings to all LA members,
1. We started LEAP (Language Enhancement Program) last year for the purpose
of helping weak students mainly those with Band 1 and 2. Previously, lecturers
were free to try out any methods they felt suitable to boost the students’
confidence in communicating in English.
2. This semester, the lecturers for LEAP are coordinators of various
courses plus Ryan and Jeni. By the end of the semester (week 13), you must
submit a 2-page report reflecting on your hits and misses when executing
activities for your LEAP class. Email your report to m-zaliATutmDOTmy with the subject LEAP REPORT.
3. For this semester, we will maintain that sense of freedom to choose
suitable methods to teach the students plus few compulsory project based tasks.
Nevertheless, there won’t be any test or final exam.
4. Students will be awarded with a certificate upon completion of the
projects. The cert will say this:
LEAP
Language Enhancement and Advancement Programme
LANGUAGE ACADEMY
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Session 1
Semester 2014/2015
Certificate of
Participation
This is to
certify that NAME (IC NUMBER) has voluntarily participated in activities
conducted by LEAP to boost UTM students’ confidence in using the English
language and take charge of their own learning.
This participant
has completed these activities:
1. Attended
interactive class sessions
2. Written 10
entries of 100 words per entry for the class weblog
3. Produced a 4-5
minute video clip in English
4. Summarized an
English novel of not less than 100 pages
This has proven
that the aforementioned student is highly motivated to improve his or her
mastery of the English language.

5. All tasks should be done individually except for the video project. The
video project should be done in a group of 5-6 students.
6. Lecturers do not have to teach students on the technical parts of
shooting and editing a video. The generation Y students are good at this or
they can learn very fast on their own. You just choose a theme for the video.
7. Similarly, you don’t have to teach the students on how to create a group
weblog. They know or they can learn on their own. You just need to know the
website address to monitor their progress. Encourage the students to leave
comments on their friends’ entries.
8. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. I’ll update
information about LEAP on my personal blog: gameplan.blogspot.com
9. Thank you for your kind attention and cooperation. Have fun in your class!
