Advice for future camp

Assalamualaikum

Now we are need to focus on the other task that still waiting us to finish. But keep the memories of the language camp in our heart as something interesting activities that we were having together as Teslian.

As we already knew the progressed of the camp not happened as what everybody expected to be. Due to time constrain, some of the game are not playing and the conducting of the game suddenly changed and not all of the participants were playing all the game. In post mortem part, here I would like to highlights some of the points.

I think it could be managed well if we were having a plan B. We need to consider any problem or situations that could be occurred out of the tentative. Therefore, this will be something that we should take a consideration and try to learn that any big event that we are going to manage should be planned and discussed well. This will effect the tentative and to the participants completely.

In the part of food and beverage may be we were required to ask or mention that some of us were not allowed to have meat in their food, so other stuff should be prepared for them or let the chef decided what should be prepared without consider our situations. My feeling was not good when some of us having just rice and vegetables on that evening. The food also not well cooked because of the last minute preparation for cooking a new set of food.

Lastly, I think the most horrible part was the surprise that we promise to present to the whole people at the camp has been cancelled. That will be the best part to relief all the stress and tiring among us. It should be the best memory ever to us especially to the person involved and practiced that very well.

During the camp, I was incharge of cleanliness along with Jehan. We selected the best garbage collector group. After that, Jehan and Povanes helped me to collect the garbage and we were directed to the garbage bin where we need to walk under the burning sun. I was grumbling because I was wearing black T-shirt and that time I want to throw the garbage as soon as possible. For me the camp area was clean before we came and after we left. Everybody was responsible with the condition of the camp area. Then Mimi asked me to help her to pass the First Aid to Kolej 9 JKM. My game with Povanes was Chinese Whisper. It was successfully done with the help of participants who enjoyed the game. The rewards were distributed equally to all the facilitators. This is as a point for them if they won any games.
Last but not least, thank you to Mr. Ghazali for all his effort to make this camp the successful one and all the facilitator that really worked hard.

Assalamualikum and Hello …

Language camp will be a wonderful memories for me. I personally enjoyed on how the language camp was planned and started. However, the preparations were the hectic weeks busiest but rather than materials, mentally and physically should be ready too. The first day started at Kolej Tun Fatimah was the successful event; at least it could motivate us to do better tomorrow. Sometimes the memories at Tanjung Bidara still around in my head, this was an unforgettable memories.

Jue, vinod and I were take responsibilities on food and beverage. We have to check it out whether the food is enough and ready by the time all the contestant were struggling having their lunch in rushing time. The preparation of the food was a little bit late for the second round where most of us need to wait for about 10 minutes because the chef just cooks a new set. They seem not sure how many of us involved in this camp, so we kept reminding them that the food was need to add on and there are 30 persons not having their lunch yet. It still happens until the last lunch that we had before all of us check out from Tanjung Bidara Resort, Melaka.

This was my first time experienced being a facilitator especially for the language camp. It was really impressed me. The drama presentation and the camp idol were the most interesting activities had by the participants. The enjoyable activity really challenged the participants to come out with their presentation in short preparation. They managed to do well. My group’s presentations were singing a song from Aladdin and presenting a drama called Princess of Mount Ledang. They were also excited to play all the games and they tried very hard to win the games. I hope they could learn something from the game. Ana and I gave our best facilitating them to enjoy the game.

I handled the last part with Yana, Waty and Ana where the time of appreciating and announcing the best group among the best. We are preparing hampers and ‘trophies’ to the Best Participant and the Drama Queen.
Congratulations to the winners.

LESSON LEARNED.....

LESSON LEARNED AND THINGS TO AVOID.

Nobody is perfect in this world. We need to learn a lesson in order to improve ourselves. No matter what age and who we are. We need to learn a lot and there is no end in learning something that can make us a better person. For this camp, I learned how to cooperate with my team member and how to handle the participants. One thing should be bear in mind is the participants are not small kids. There are not small kids where we should annoy or scold them. Everybody make mistakes. As a facilitator, my job is to teach them and try to solve any problems that occur. I?m not just a facilitator there, but also a friend for the participants when they need me. Things to improve are basically how the games are arranged. Due to time limitation, some games are unable to play. Groups were divided into two which I think not a very good idea. This is because some of the participants like to play the games with large groups where they can compete with each other. They want to see how other groups? performance.
Last but not least, I would to thank everybody that worked so hard to make this camp a successful camp. Good luck.

hi beautiful people....

Things to avoid and Lesson learned

At the end of a day, we would realise that lots of things had occurred; people whom we had met, places that we had gone, and situation that we had encountered. In short, we would be doing a post-mortem for the day. So, it wouldn?t be a surprise if I say that I did a post-mortem on the camp. In summary, I wanted to analyse on the things which we should have had avoided and the lessons which we had learned out of the mistakes we had made. First and the foremost, we as the facilitators, should not treat the participants as a child as they are matured people. We must always be an example to the participants. Never let them find fault in us. No matter in what! The most important of all, mix around with them. During break, sit and spend some time with them. Let them know that we are a bunch of friendly people. Always have a pleasant smile on your face. Never let them find out that you are exhausted.
Hope these would be useful guidelines for the future TESL undergraduates.

hi beautiful people!

Contribution

Each and every one of us had to slog a lot before and during the language camp. As the number of 3rd year TESL undergraduates is small, we had to take up more than one responsibility. On top of our responsibilities or administration task for this camp, we helped each other to make things run smoothly.
I was given the privilege to run the ice breaking session. I felt honoured but at the same time, nervousness was running haywire in my mind. I couldn?t prepare well as I was told late evening of the first day of the English Language Camp. However, my sincere thanks to Bae for trusting in me and helping me along the way. To my surprise, ice breaking was a success. The credit goes to everyone and of course the wonderful participants.
On the last day of the camp, I came forward to help out Aso and Jehan to dispose the tonnes of garbage, which was collected by the participants. ?The Group with the most Garbage Collected? was a game that we had during the camp. ?Wow!? That was the first word I uttered when I saw the amount of garbage collected. We were puzzled as to where to dispose the garbage. Later, we were directed to the garbage bin. We carried the black bags full of garbage and walked under the merciless hot sun.
The pain that we had gone through for the camp, had indeed brought fruitful result.

Things to be improved....

This would be the final one. So, I would like to highlight on certain things that could be improved for the next language camp.

Firstly is on the facilitator part. We should be friendly to the participants, always smile, care about them, join them during the mealtime and treat them as our friend.
Facilitators should be ready and prepared themselves enough for any possibilities that might be happened during the camp.
Secondly is on the time management part. Facilitator must be punctual all the time. Never let the participants wait for us because this could lead to bad impressions on the participants? side. They might think that the facilitators are not serious with their job and lack of discipline.
Finally yet importantly, I want to comment on the partnership part. I personally think that it might be better if the arrangement of partnership involves persons who know each other very well.
Therefore, this will avoid any miscommunication and confusion during the facilitating time.

Anyway, I really enjoyed myself during the camp and I hoped that others felt the same way too. We learned a lot from this camp and I valued it as one of my sweetest memories to be remembered in my life.

Learn from the mistakes we made and I hope it will be better for the next camp.

Hi everyone !

My contributions for the camp.
At last, the camp is over. Actually I am very relieved fro its over. Even though all of us went through a hard time in making this camp a successful one, I am very sure that we must have forgotten those hurtful things by now. Come on?life has never been perfect to anyone?Anyway, my part of contributions is: As group facilitator, I was in my group facilitating my group member s with my partner Nik. We were there for them all the time except for Camp Idol, but I must say that they really did well even though they didn?t win. I hope I did my part with the group and also hope that there will be a permanent relationship between me and my group members after the camp. I am seeing few of them at K9 quite often actually. Apart from that, I was the Master of Ceremony for the Drama presentation. Mardiana was there with me carrying out the same task. I am happy that I was given that opportunity. As for the ?Drawing Blind?, Diana and I did put a lot effort in finding and drawing the picture on the eve of the camp. When we recall those sleepless nights and tired moments now, it seems like we still have not done the best. We human never been satisfied in anything right?I must thank my fellow friends Diana, Pooh and Asotha for being  such a great help at times before and also during the camp.
Finally, I would like to thank Mr G for exposing us to a very big environment and it was very useful and meaningful at the same time. I would also like to thank the rest of my classmates for helping each other during the camp?without all of you, the camp will be carried out smoothly.
 Thank you guys?

advice for future camp

Advice and things to avoid

Hi friends?
I can?t believe that our camp is over. It?s a relief actually for we were looking forward it from the beginning of the semester. I hope that all of us had fun there even though there were times when we are tensed, confused and frustrated. Hmmm? we went through the moment with a matured mind and proved that we are a team !
To me, the camp went well even though there are minus part of it. In fact, this is our first experience too? My advice or suggestions for the upcoming language camps is that teamwork should be made primacy. This is our camp and we have to work for it not others. If the camp is a success the credit goes to the whole team and if it is a failure it is the malfunction of the whole class.
The main in a language camp is the preparation. The preparation should be made very earlier to avoid complications during the camp such as time management and financial hitch. To collect fund for the camp, we can come out with a few activity such as ?fund car wash?, ?movie show? and etc to earn more money, which will be desperately, needed for the camp. Another important issue to be given attention is cooperation among us. Cooperation among the organizers or coordinators should be improved as well as for the communication. I personally feel that our badge is lack of these two qualities.
Sorry guys if I have hurt anybody throughout the camp project and thank you so much for being helpful at times. Lastly I would like say here that I enjoyed the camp well and I strongly agree that all the facilitators and Mr G worked hard for it. It is just the matter of preparation and time management.

My Contributions For The Language Camp

My Contributions For The Language Camp
As a camp commandant, I have to admit that I have not
contribute much ( to some extend none). The only
contribution that worth mentioned is my support for
setting up an efficient and working PA system plus the
ability to meet the logistic need of certain game
especially the Amazing Race. I have to admit that
while I may have the ability to contribute as a
worker, I lack of the character that needed to lead
(Our director have to show me how since she have shown
a sheer amount of leadership during the camp).

Preparation For The Camp

Preparation For The Camp
The preparation for me could be divided to two types
of preparation, personal preparation and the camp
preparation. My personal preparation consists of
submitting the lesson plan of my game to the
authorized committee and preparing the personal needs
for camps. The camp preparations consist of the
briefing session on all the games that will be played
during the camp and the responsibility of each
member/committee. The briefing was held with the
objective to make sure that all the facilitator
involved has a clear description on their
responsibilities during the camp and when playing
certain game. There are also a rehearsal for TPR and
the facilitator? cheer within the same day.

My Responsibilities For Language Camp

For the language camp, I have been given three
responsibilities. First, as the camp commandant,
second, as a member of Discipline Committee and third,
as an assistant leader for PA System Committee. I do
not have the clear description on my responsibility as
the camp commandant, but as a member of Discipline
Committee, I have been responsible for drafting rules
for the camp. My job as assistant to PA System
Committee consist of helping my leader, Mohd Fahmi, to
set up a PA system that could be used for any event
throughout the camp by using any available equipments.
In addition, five of us, Fahmi, Baee, Shaylendran,
Suhaila and myself also responsible for setting up the
logistic needs for the ?Amazing Race? .

Reflection of Game Day

Reflection of Game Day
The game day was held with the objective to test the
games that have been constructed within language game
class. The participants are the students from the
language game class itself so do the facilitator of
each game. The event went smoothly as planned except
for an incident that kept two of the class member from
participating in the morning session. They, however
join in later for the evening session. My partner and
I are in charge of a game called Dices and Words that
imply the concept of luck with the wide knowledge of
vocabulary. My partner, Fahmi, has been fabulous that
day when he done all the talking part (briefing and
debriefing) and I grateful for that. Otherwise, I
really hope that I could contribute more. The only
complaint that I have in mind would be the food.
Overall, the game day run as smoothly as it could,
thanks to our director, Baee and I really hope I could
play more pivotal role that day while hoping for we
could be served with better food and drinks (the tea
is too sweet for my taste).

Hello everyone..
We share experience and memory of our language camp after having a few days together at Tanjung Bidara. I was assigned as a facilitator for purple cat group. Everything was going well and I noticed all eight members of this group are so nice and their english neither weak nor bad. Some of them are good and the rest I considered as average. They found that the activities during the camp were interesting and good as they got a chance to know more new vocabulary and enjoy themselves together with friends they did not know before. They have done a good job in all the activities. Besides, they put more efforts for camp idol event, amazing race and drama presentation. As a facilitator, I am proud with their achievement.
Regarding to confusion while conducting the game, it is something forgivable as we ourselves do not hope for such situation. It happened due to a little bit misunderstanding among us. Actually, rushing back into the hall to conduct the same game for the second time is quite chaotic because the groups which played outside have not done with their game yet. Nevertheless, it did not take too much time to start the new slot in the hall and the game can be conducted as planned. No matter what we have done,   hopefully there is no heart feeling among us anymore. Well, having excitement evening during Amazing Race slot was amusing. I was at checkpoint 3 with our junior Nad and the gangs. The participants are so enthusiastic of presenting tongue twister in order to get the clue. Furthermore, after that we had chance to have our own time near the beach area after getting permission from Puan K.
best of luck to all...

Advice to Things to Avoid.

Things to Avoid

Assalammualaikum and hello?

I guess that every one of us has learnt something from the camp. Like me myself, I gained lots of experiences which I admit as a precious knowledge for my life. Everybody makes mistake, and we must learn from the mistake if we want to success. All of us know that the place for the camp was too far and that had taken lots of our time to start off with what we had planned as in the tentative. I think that we didn?t prepare for the plan B to back up for any contingency that might be happened. Anyhow, it was great that we could overcome the sudden situation right on the spot. Well done to all of us?
Planning is important in anything that we do to determine whether or not we will success. Looking back from what we?ve done, we did plan, but might be there was some leakage about it. I guess that all of us need to sit in a meeting before assigning tasks to ensure that everybody understands and agree own responsibility and have self-satisfaction. The point is every one of us just be given the tasks yet need to cope ourselves with the different style of a new partner which would lead to misunderstanding and also influence our mood. Whatever it is the best thing is we must respect each other and clarify ourselves with anything that we were unclear and just avoid making other people confused with what we didn?t understand.
Whatever feedback that we got, supportive or underestimate us but at least we know that we have all out for camp. Congratulation guys?

Yours,
NORLELAWATEE/Mrs. Aizan

contributions to the language camp..

Just like a blink of eyes, and the camp was over, a few weeks  ago..After waiting for so long and having a hectic month of preparations, depressions, sacrifices, conflicts, happiness etc..at last we made it. Congratulations to all Cosmic teslians and Mr g.

The best experience that I valued during the language camp was to be assigned as the emcee ( Master of ceremonies ) for Camp idol on Saturday night, alone. I was shocked when I got the task in just about 20 ? 30 minutes before the idol function began. I needed to prepare my speech, at the same time; I was sweating from my TPR practice with other TPR committees, and got to rush for my meals, evening bath and needed to dress on time.

Few minutes before the Camp idol started, I had to announce about the new ?rule?, ( Jurors ) which confused me a little bit, but thanks a lot to Shylen for helping me to work with ?it?. And I guessed the Camp Idol was successfully done even though I was not as energetic as Ryan Seacrast or Aznil Nawawi. But, I had try my best and thanks God, I completed it at last? so, any comment about my performance that night? Feel free to do it yaa!!

Nothing much to say about my part, just some efforts and helps that I had put in guiding my Yellow Cat members who were very independent and great people to be with..

About the TPR session which had been conducted by Bro. Shylen, Bro. Fahmy, Sis Sue, Sis Dalea and I, was quite chaos but the participants seemed enjoy and having fun with that morning exercises..

Not to forget, My partner, Dalea and I had also conducted Guess it! game session and it was successfully done by us..
thank you again, Dalea.

This is from the H.E.A.R.T.........

Helo guys....i'm back (huahuahuahua)...i don't know why, but every time I started to write something, my friend Salina would get a lil bit of "annoyed" because she knows, when I start to write, I just couldn?t stop writing....maybe, I express myself well through it and that's why you don't hear me giving out comments verbally, huh?!!!

As I sit here in front of my computer, anxiously to look back what lessons I have learned so far, during the English camp, or have been struggling to learn throughout my life, I realize that, it is a rather difficult task to accomplish. Especially, when it involving a huge event such as this.  But, that?s what I?m supposed to do on a reflective report;  to put my thoughts into words. It's just that nothing I write seems good enough. The reflections I am about to reveal are truly from my heart??

About the game, I?ve learned that you can?t let anything good come into the picture, if you are still hanging on to the bad things.  That kind of thought can destroy everything.  My advice to anyone who cares enough to listen is that if you are in that situation, whether it is with another person or simply with yourself that is totally unhealthy.  The sooner you get the bad out, the sooner you can let the good in. Focus on what is positive and leave the negativity behind. Do not let words keep you down and just take things easy and enjoy the moment while you?re still can. I know, some of my friends are a little bit down because of the remarks that have been made by the participants, but, I truly believe that those are just ?minority?. So, my friend, ignore the minority and all those little voices, we don?t need that. I know that we had given all out?and only God knows how much effort and soul that we have put into this camp. So, we have done our best, C.O.N.G.R.A.T.U.L.A.T.I.O.N.S.

The greatest achievement that I truly can be proud of myself is when I lead the facilitator cheer. Personally, I think, if I got the video tape for that and show it to my cheerleaders back at school, I?m sure they are going to knock their head to the wall. I mean, it?s not bad for a girl who has ?zero? knowledge on cheerleading and always make fun of the cheerleaders; was able to do that in just a few weeks. Wow?.that?s amazing??.And all those mental stress that I have been through, worth a single minute of it, when the participants wrote me love letters, telling me how much they enjoyed the cheer. We performed the cheer for 3 times as requested and I would like to thank my partner in crime, Mimi for being there when I needed her the most?..for being there to support me and help me?.thanks darling?.

Helping friends in need is worth telling. As a team, we never have that sense of feeling saying ?that?s not my job, it? xxxxx?. I think, most of us take the time to help each other, even though we are not responsible for certain things, but, we care enough to lend a helping hand, just to make things easier, we share the burden and work as a team. That?s what friends are for, through thick and thin.

The sooner you learn to enjoy the moment, the easier life will be. Friends often make the remark that I am ?easily amused.?  I genuinely like that about myself.  It?s not that I don?t take things seriously when I need to, but if you stop and take a look around, strange things happen every day.  Always laugh when you can, it is a cheap medicine.  ?Silliness is the sunny side of existence.? I strongly believe that now.

Sometimes, life doesn?t work out the way you think it?s going to be and there is not always an answer. Seriously though, sometimes things just don?t work out right, you get that painful feeling in your heart and you just want to collapse under the stress.  However, at some point, we have to learn to let go.  You have to let go of the events that you can?t control and put faith into the idea that everything does happen for a reason.  If you can slowly release yourself from your stress and worry, eventually you will find an inner strength and conviction inside of you that you had forgotten that it was there at the first.  When you learn to let go of what you can?t control, then you will find peace in the end. I wish I could save the world, like some kind of a supergirl, but, hey, that never happens. Although me and my girls are trying so much to save the awkwardness of singing ?I believe? towards the end of the program, but, hey, as Roslan Aziz (MI) said ?Not everyone can come up to the stage and sing?.? We might not be Jacqueline Victor, Siti Nurhaliza, Mariah Carey, or anything like that, but, we are bunch of people who enjoy singing and have fun doing it. We are adults who know how to have fun!!!!!!!!

Lastly, I would like to give a big shout out to my Cosmic Teslians and to my girls (B.L.U.E C.A.T) ?Rini, Lia, Ottey, Baitey, As, Dayang, Nurul, Fi, Non, Mai??this one is for you:-

?If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time?.?

 truly from the heart,
      ^^Leny^^

My Contribution for the Camp

My Contribution for the Game.

Assalamualaikum and Hiii guys?
The game 2 was over?everything has swiftly gone and the sweetest moment is safely kept in our endless memory encountered in UTM?
Every one of us plays important roles and has made contributions for the camp 2. Since the night of the ice-breaking in KTF, I felt so excited to facilitate those participants in the camp. I make myself enjoy the opening session as to pleasure them and make them comfortable with me. Actually, I?ve prepared a cheer song and a camp idol song for my team: The Pink Cat. By this, I?ve made a brainstorm with my click; Dalea, to find out a more versatile cheer song instead of singing the common one.
Before we left UTM to Tanjung Bidara, I took all rewards provided for the winners, loaded it into the bus.  After checking in the hotel resort, I was rushing to the hall to ensure my team: The Pink Cat received all the information clearly. I played my role as a facilitator to the Pink Cat team. As before any game started, I will slot short briefing about to play the game, the rules and the durations given. I joint the outside teams nearby the pool for half of the games. I tried to find out place for my team to play such games and supported them each and everywhere I can.
I know everyone of us was rushing here and there to perform the most of our ability for the camp. I was under the safety team, just be prepared myself for any contingency happens. Just one thing about the broken glass during the drama time, I gave my hand to settle up the messy glasses and made a report to the registration counter for help.
I was assigned to be at the checkpoint 5 with Hanim during the Amazing Race.  It was fun to test the participants before simply gave them the clue of the checkpoint to move on the game.
I joint the cosmic TESLIAN?s cheer group and the group performance. It was amazing and gained new experience from it. I guess that?s all for now. See you in my final reflection.

Yours,
NORLELAWATEE/Mrs. Aizan

Fahmy, Sis Sue, Sis Dalea and I,it was quite chaos but the participants seemed enjoy and having fun with that morning exercises..

Not to forget, My partner, Dalea and I had also conducted Guess it! game session and it was successfully done by us..
thank you again, Dalea.

report

REPORT ON THE LANGUAGE CAMP??????.

The English camp started with the ice breaking
session. There were about three or four games were
included in the ice breaking slot. The purpose of the
ice breaking is to let the participants know about
their new friends where at the end of these activities
they will be given a piece of small paper. In each of
the paper is written the name of their group?s name
such as black cat, red cat and orange cat. That
particular name will lead to their respective groups.
But before that, based on that name they need to find
their facilitators. I?ll myself take charge on
dividing the group members on their respective groups.
And each group supposed to be eight to nine people.
After that, each group need to work on their cheering
and this will be used by them whenever they won any of
the games. After all of the groups presenting their
cheering, the facilitators perform their cheering to
the participants. It took about a week of practice to
see the perfect movements. The first night of English
camp was dismissed by singing the theme song of the
language camp. The title of the song is ?I believe?
which is sung by Yolanda Adam.

And at the same night we went back to our hostel and
make some last preparation including packing all
clothes in the bag. Even though we felt very tired, we
still need to complete these responsibilities no
matter how exhausted we were. In the next morning, we
departed from Kolej Tun Fatimah with the rest of the
participants which is half of us departed from Kolej
Nine. On the journey to Tanjung Bidara we?re still
have chance to enjoy the view. The best thing about
Malacca I can describe is the architecture of its
traditional house. As we arrived late to the chalet,
some of the games need to be canceled due to time
consuming. I really disappointed because our game is
one of the games that were eliminated. Then the
participants and facilitators were divided into a
group of four. Each of these groups was given with a
key of their room. After that we took our lunch and
performed our prayers. At two in the afternoon, we?re
start with the first games and all of the participants
were gathered in the same hall. The name of the game
is Chinese Whisper. However, for the next game which
is Drawing Blind, the participants need to be
separated into two large groups. One group will
compete with five groups in that hall and another five
groups will compete against others outside of the hall
which is on the wooden stage in front of the swimming
pools.

I heard at first they are some kind of lost and
don?t know where to find the right spot to continue
the activities. But after a few discussions among
facilitators they decided to play the game on the
stage. And things are a little bit in chaos however
they are managed to make things work right on the
track. Congratulations to all facilitators who take
charge on the outside of the hall. The story was
different inside of the hall as we played Drawing
Blind, participants need to give instructions to their
friend who is blindfolded. The hall is full of voices
as all of them were shouting during that game. I admit
that I could not stand the sound of it as it was too
loud. Sometimes I need to cover my ears with both of
my palm. Other games that were played during that day
are such as the name game, Dices and Words and
Pyramid. At five o?clock, the amazing race starts and
before that all of the facilitators were briefed by
Bae and the crew about the games. I was in charged in
giving the participants with one of the clues for the
next destination. The Amazing race is the combination
of two games which are Whose Clues and Command and
Conquer.

At night, the participants were given with a task
which they have to sing a song for each group. With
that song, they have to come out with their creative
presentation, however the presentation is not based on
role play. What I really interested about this camp
idol is the judges were chosen from the participants
of each group. Each of them comes out with different
opinions about the presentation. This activity is
enjoyable and need creative thinking from the
participants. After that, Mr. G continues the
activities with last letter. In this game,
participants need to make big circle, each of them
need to pronounce and spell the word that begin with
the last letter of the previous person who pronounce
that particular word. Games finished at 11 o?clock.
After all the participants went to their rooms, we?re
having a postmortem about all of the activities done
during that day. After that, we?re made our own party.
We were served with some snacks and drink. We?re also
played the poison box. Even though we were exhausted
after all day long of varieties of activities, but it
won?t stop us from spending time together.

Advice for future camp...

Well, advice is good huh...  First of all, have everything prepared with list of things that you should do. Next, if you are a photographer, do have extra memory card (if your card is in small memory) and extra battery with you all the time (in you pocket). Next, always keep track for any schedule changes so that you can plan your personal time and last of all, have a class spirit and do it for the sake of your team. Anything possible if you have the team spirit.. have trust with whatever you do... i believe i will... i believe i can... lalalala... sing it!! hehe..

My contributions towards Camp 2006..

At last, the camp is over. I'm relieved although there had been some 'scratches' here and there but it is part of life. We can have high expectations but it is sometimes will not be as what we've planned.
Anyway, my part of contributions are, I took some photos during the camp and even before the travelling part. I had pictures taken in KTF, the icebreaking day. I hope I had everybody's picture as i wouldn't want to miss everybody act during the camp. Well, the CD will be out soon... don't forget to check it out!!!
As group facilitator, i realized that my duty is not end within the group but also to control the participants so that they wouldn't feel clueless. I hope I did my part with the group and also hope that there will be a continuity relationship between me and my group members after the camp. (as they gave me their friendster id).
As for TPR members... hehehe... do wake up earlier so that we (Baizura, Nik, Lenny and especially me) do not have to jog. (it's such a hard pain to run u know...) hehehe....
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all.. i mean ALL for your hard work and dedication in making sure this camp possible... muahhssss...... and also Mr G.. thank you for your guidance...

some advice

SUGGESTION TO THE NEXT GENERATION?????.

After three days of English camp, I felt like getting
new experiences as I never been a facilitator before
this. In my opinion, every event that is organized by
any organization will have its strength and
weaknesses. For this English camp, I have no doubt
that it also have its weaknesses. First of all please
make sure all of the equipment that will be used
during the English camp is brought to the camp. In
case, you forget and left some of the kit at campus.
So my advice always prepared with the second plan. So
that you won?t feel blur when you reached the camp.
One more thing about the equipment is, if you ask the
participants to bring their own stuff which involving
the particular games, you as the facilitators also
have to make sure that you also prepare that
particular thing too.

Do not rely hundred percent on the participants. For
the game drawing blind as example, the participants
were reminded to bring a piece of long cloth as their
blindfolded a night before departure. However they are
totally forgot about that. As a solution, they have to
use the garbage plastic bag as their blindfolded.
Besides that, make sure that you as facilitators know
a bit about the place. It is because the spacious
place is important because there are lots of
participants. For this English camp the participants
are about eighty something. And we have to divide them
and choose two locations which are in hall and on the
wooden stage in front of the swimming pools. The
situation in the hall during the game was just fine
but the situation outside of the hall was a bit in
kiosk. The reason is, at first they cannot find the
suitable spot to play the drawing blind. At last they
just choose any place that can be used to draw the
pictures. In the hall we paste the mahjong paper on
the wall for those who played outside they need to
draw it on the floor.

Time management is also important in this matter. As
facilitators we must bear in mind what we supposed to
do at that particular time. Or else things that we
planned won?t be come true. As examples, we?ve planned
to make surprise to Mr. G and all of the participants.
However there is some technical problem occurred at
that time so we just sing the song without showing the
surprised presentation according to plan. One of us
tried to get the song at her room but all of people
left the hall right after she arrived. Plus we have to
check out at 12.30 p.m. I?m quite disappointed
because they practiced the movements for almost a week
and it?s really tiring. Even though it happened to us
but we don?t want it to happen again to our junior who
will be the next facilitators for the next English
language camp.

As a conclusion, what ever we?ve done in the previous
English language camp is all the best that we can do
in the limited time. So have no regret about that.
What is done is done and no turning back. All we have
to do is just make a small modification and implement
it at schools as we are teacher to be. So all the best
to all of you and congratulations. I?m really proud to
be part of COSMIC TESLIANs.

last minute preparations

my last minute preparations would be making sure that everything is according to plan.

i had to make sure that all facilitators prepared the material, submit their games guidelines and facilitator's manual to salina, whom i enjoyed pastering since she is so independent.. hehe..

next, i had to make sure that all facilitators responsible for cheers and tpr has adequate practices. they start practising 1 week before the camp. all i can say is that i admire their enthusiasm. they worked hard, and the result was excellent. thanks to lenny and mimi for conducting the cheers session wonderfully. to the trp gang.. "u'r my cuppycake gumdrops shmickem shmickem shemior.."

next would be preparing the manual and material for amazing race. thank you baizura for taking over most of the part for this game.

the night prior to the ice breaking@ktf i had to rush to pn hanim's house. Yana, Dalea, Sue and myself had to listen to her sarcasm as if the organizational chaos and slowness of progress was our fault.

the final preparation prior the camp would be final meeting and briefing at kolej 13's cafe. we spend 3 hours revising through the manuals, responsibilities, tentative and last minute changes. it was hot and stuffy, but nobody complained. well at least not verbally to my face ;p

my responsibilities

as the director of the camp, my first and foremost responsibilities was to set up commmitee and assign members to those committess. this was done with the help of shy.

then it was my responsibility to make sure all committee members know what are their tasks and responsibilities prior and during the camp.

my next responsiblity was to establish direct contact with the organizers. my only mistake here was i failed to delegate this part successfully and ended up the organizers asking me what to do!

another responsibility of mine is to make sure that all committees are doing their part.

next would be preparing, checking, rechecking, create a new one and rechecking again the tentative programme. thanks to mr g and shylen for baring the responsibility with me.

after that would be making sure all activites plan can be carried out as smooth as possible. i also need to attend last minute adjustments that appear, well, at the very last minute.

making sure all glitches are ironed smooth would be another responsibility of mine.

and last but not least, report to mr g of the on going situation prior, during and after tha camp..

CONTRIBUTION

IRIE?S   CONTRIBUTION

There are lots of touching and happy moments blooming during the most cherished English Camp ever. For me, I gain lots of experiences throughout the English Camp. Everyone contributes all of the effort in making the Camp successful. Gongrats girls?..

White Cat?.. My group name?. looking at the name itself it reflect the members of the members groups?.?innocent?. My first task is to make the participant feel confident of themselves. I always try to provoke them to be more energetic, confident and most important thing motivates them to speak English. At first, they are quite shy and quite, but I always give them encouragement?? ?Come on girls, be energetic, be brave and show them that you are the best, you girls can do it??Do not afraid to make mistake?.We learns from mistake?. MISS YOU GIRLS SO MUCH?..!!!! I wish you a thousand of congrats for an astounding job. You?ve done great job girls!!!! And not to forget thanks for your comments girls?. I am pleased about it?

At some part of the Camp, there is one time that really tested me as a facilitator. That was when the time the participants were divided into two big groups. The first group has to stay inside and the other group has to play outside. The groups inside the hall play the ?Drawing Blind? and the groups outside the hall have to play ?Pitfall?. Supposedly, the ?Pitfall? has to play in a big group at the same time. But suddenly everything did not move according to plan. I have to give an instruction to the participants on how to play the game and my partner Jue distributing the materials to the facilitator outside the hall. At the same time my groups play ?Drawing Blind? inside the hall. Imagine?.. I have to be in two places at the same time. When everything outside the hall has settled, I have to rush back into the hall to be with my groups. I don?t want to miss the chance to observe my team play the game and support them. Then, everything started to worry me again when the groups inside the hall nearly finish playing ?Drawing Blind?; this is because the next game is ?Pitfall?. So, I have to rush back to the group outside the hall to collect back the materials (Pitfall). Thank God I manage to get back on time. I started to conduct the game with my partner Jue and other facilitators inside the hall. Everything back to normal??..Alhamdullilah?..

Camp?s Idol?..what sensational night?.. The night that reveal a lots of hidden talent among the participant. I?m responsible for the marking part, where I have to collect the marks from the judges and calculate it to identify the winner. As for my group I prepared a song together with the lyric for them to practice. I do give some ideas and advices for them before the competition. They?ve done a great job?. They told me that there?ll be a surprise but I never know what it is until that night?..That was really a surprise girls?.!!!! What a shock!!!

Well, I guess that?s all from me?. There?s lots of thing to say, but all of a sudden I?ve lost my words?..hehe?.may be next time?.see ya?.

ADVICES

ADVICES FOR THE FUTURE?..

In organizing big events like English Camp takes a lot of effort and works. In making such an event a success, everyone should be united as one team not as individuals. When we unite as a team, we will share lots of new ideas, experiences, thoughts, feelings and information. As a result the job will be easier, run smoothly and the most important thing it can avoid miscommunication among us as a facilitator. We as a facilitator should set a good example in all aspect to the participants. The word energetic and ?TESL students? is like a ?synonym?. As a facilitator we have to be energetic and involve actively in the game. And most important, speak ENGLISH??

Punctuality?.. This is the core part in ensuring the Camp will be a great success. We have to be punctual in everything. Time is precious. If we lost just one second it will affect the whole unit. Take for an example, due to the time of departure, the Camp set off far from the normal plan and it affects the progress of the activity. Unpredicted situation and difficulty may take place during the progress of the Camp. So, in order to make it well controlled, always prepare a backup plan.

The selection of activity should be bear in mind. The activity not only fun to play but must have the essence of learning. The participants not only enjoy the game or activity they also will learn something from the game. This is to highlight a new way and a fun way of learning. Due to this the participants will get engage actively in the activity and learn in a relax environment.

Last but not least, the facilitators have to be friendly with the participants. We have to take into consideration that the participant not necessarily younger than you, they might be your peers or might be older than you. So we have to treat them as a friend, not as a student. There should be no gap between you and participants. This will motivate the participants to take part in the activity. Well, I suppose that?s all from me?.. Hope to see a better incoming English Camp?..Good Luck!!!!?.

My advice to the next batch superstar?

Assalamualaikum and hello to everyone?

A very large amount of energy is needed to handle a big event like English camp. Everyone must be united and cooperative. When things go wrong, don?t just blame certain people, have a seat and discuss professionally. More to the point, as a facilitator, we need to be firm and alert of things around us. Any changes will affect the whole camp so we need to be wide awake of that.
Throughout the camp, I have learnt that everything must be done accordingly or we might lose time to perform what we have planned. However, we must remember that though we have planned well, God?s planning can never been defeated. In that case, we must be able to leap in according to the situation. In short, we must not only prepare plan B but if possible plan C that might be the saviour for unexpected circumstances.
Other than that, strategy is one of the main factors in promising the smooth movement of the camp. The strategy must not only come from the committees and the top administrators? level only but also for each and every one of the facilitators. Let say a facilitator was asked for something by the participant and at that time she/he is the only facilitator available. If he/she do not take a quick action, he/she might deliver a bad impression to the participants and will be considered failed. So, he/she needs to have strategy or should be ready to face that kind of situation.
Last but not least, the punctuality. As facilitators, we look a lot like teachers. Thus, we need to show a good example if we want our students to perform what we want them to do. It is the same in facilitating, as a facilitator you need to always be on time. However, do not teach your participants as if you are teaching your students. Always bear in mind that your participants might be older than you and even they are younger than you the best way to approach them is by becoming their friend. You might use the personality as a teacher to come close to them but do not ever teach them. Facilitating and teaching are two different things. My advance good luck to all the next batch superstars! Be the best, beat the rest!
